People Airsoft: Chronograph Review

We at PeopleAirsoft has chosen to review chronographs used in airsoft, because there are so many makes and models nobody really knows which is good or not, we took it upon ourselves to obtain and test the most popular chronographs that are being used.

Our tests consists of 8 chronographs of different makes of which include:

* Skanar Pro1 made in the United Kingdom, retails for $250 to $315 USD
* Xcortech X3200 made in Taiwan, retails for $99 to $130 USD
* Laylax made in Japan, retails for $115 to $140 USD
* Madbull Airsoft V.2 made in Taiwan, retails for $115 to $140 USD
* Combro Mk4 made in the United Kingdom, retails for $65 to $95 USD
* Fidragon made in China, retails for $50 to $80 USD
* Chrony F-1 made in the USA, retails for $70 to $100 USD
* No.1 China Brand made in China, retail price $35 to $65 USD.

With our tests we used a VFC PDW AEG utilizing a 7.4v Lithium Polymer Battery(LiPO Battery) and using Madbull Airsoft 0.20g Match Grade BBs, all tests are conducted with the same gun and BBs to ensure consistency between each brand of chronographs.

The results of our test was no surprise, of coursethe more expensive chronographs resulted in a better more accurate performance, where as the cheaper chronographs were less accurate and display an inconsistency among the readings.

The results were divided into two categories, Best Performance and Best Value. Please keep in mind that the value is determined by the chronograph’s performance, conventionality, and mobility. Each category will only contain the top 4 chronographs.

Best Performance:

1. Skanar Pro1
2. Chrony F-1
3. Laylax
4. Madbull V.2 Chronograph

Best Value:

1. Madbull V.2 Chronograph
2. Laylax
3. Xcortech X3200
4. Chrony F-1
5. Skanar Pro1

Though the Skanar and Chrony displayed the best performance, both chronographs are large, bulky, and cumbersome to carry. Especially for the Chrony require adequate amounts ambient light.

The Xcortech X3200, although not placed in best performance is placed into best value because of its consistent readings and portability behind the Madbull and Laylax chronographs. It is placed after these two chronographs because the lightweight plastic body of the X3200 feels flimsy and seems very easy to break.

The Madbull and Laylax tie for first place in the Best Value category because they are built sturdy lightweight, and displayed very consistent and accurate readings that placed it into the Best Performance category. The Madbull V.2 may be a little heavier than the Laylax or the Xcortech but the all metal house ensures sturdiness and rigidity of the chronograph. The Laylax chronograph is also has a plastic construction, but does the plastic is much stronger and not as flimsy as that of the Xcortech, resulting in a sturdier body yet keeping it lightweight.

In conclusion the best two chronographs by value is the Laylax and the Madbull V.2, the reason for the tie into first place is due to the Madbull V.2′s weight and the Laylax’s capability of only displaying in meters per second rather than feet per second. Thus both chronographs have about equal faults that makes neither better than the other.
